It was the T20 World Cup final and all club members had gathered to watch the event on the giant screen. Padma, Prabha, Kaushik and Kingo arrived early to have their usual chat and then proceed to watch the match. Padma said we should look at T20 in 3 parts, the first 6 overs are slog, then accumulation for 10 overs and then slog in the last 4 overs”. Kingo, the aggressor, observed that it was not winning strategy to play it like that. You have to bang bang from ball 1 all the way if you want to win.

Sarangapani Club – Safety First

Our quartet of Padma, Prabha, Kingo and Kaushik were watching the breaking news on the TV and listening to the sad story of a child having fallen into a bore well and efforts were on to bring the child out safely. Padma and Prabha went in unison, “Oh my God. Please do something and save the child”. Kingo blurted “Safety is always compromised in India – an electrician came for repair at my house and he did not have a proper plug and was inserting two open wires in the plug holes. They concretized a road and the edges were a vertical drop of 1 foot – if someone just misses the edge, they will have a bad fall”.

Sarangapani Club – Trick Taking Games

It was the first week of January when everyone had been to their home town and they were meeting a after a gap of 2 weeks. Padma wanted to speak first before any one and burst out saying “I think I know how Bridge evolved in India”. Prabha, Kaushik and Kingo were eager to hear but they had their own findings on how it evolved in India. Ultimately, the four of them decided to do a white paper on trick taking games in India and compare them with today’s modern game of Bridge.
